Choosing the Right Size Laptop Case
Nothing is more frustrating than buying a cover to keep your laptop in tip-top shape, only to get it home and realize it doesn’t fit. Too big, too small, not wide enough. The best way to protect your laptop is with a padded cover that fits snuggly. But there are so many laptops out there in so many varying dimensions it’s impossible to make a one-size-fits-all. While we can't guarantee perfection, here are some tips that should help you find the right size for your laptop:
1. All manufacturers measure their laptops using the diagonal of the screen. (Don’t ask us why- they just do.) The diagonal is the distance from the upper corner of the screen to the lower corner on the opposite side. Measure your laptop’s diagonal before you buy the cover and you’ll have a much better idea of what size you should be looking for. If you see a description that says the cover fits most 15” laptops, it is referring to the laptop’s diagonal.
2. There are no “standard” laptop dimensions. So, to ensure you buy a cover with the best possible fit, take the time to also measure your laptop’s length, width and especially the depth. (thickness of the laptop when closed) This is why a 15.4” Dell laptop might not fit into a case that is perfect for a 15.4” Mac. We try our best to include all three measurements in the descriptions for our laptop sleeves and covers. If you come across a description that doesn’t include the depth measurement it’s most likely an expandable cover. Meaning, it’s made using a material (such as the neoprene cases made by Built NY) that stretches to accommodate multiple laptop sizes.
